Scientific name: Dianthus caryophyllus

Origin: Southern Europe to India.

Growing Environment: Carnations need full sunlight 4-5 hours per day but require little labor and can even be grown at home in gardens and containers.

Size: Full size carnations grow up to 3 inches in diameter.

Composition: Single large flower on each stem. Many ruffled petals.

Vase Life: 2-3 weeks

Health Benefits: Stress relief, Skin conditioner (oils & cosmetics), calming and soothing scent.

Edible?: Yes - Can be brewed into teas. Used in ancient China to reduce stress.

Carnations are known as a symbol of a Mother’s love and are popular for Mother’s Day.
